Good news is something we all would like to hear these days.
Well, the Bible talks about good news too - the greatest news you’ll ever hear. It is the good news that you can have your sins forgiven, and be given the gift of eternal life with God!
Perhaps you’re thinking, “That IS good news! How can I be forgiven of my sin? How can I have eternal life?”
The Bible gives us five important truths you must first understand and believe, and one important decision you must make for God to give you eternal life.
1. Know that God loves you.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
2. Recognize and admit that you have sinned against God.
1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Romans 3:23 For all (including you) have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
3. Recognize that your sin has an eternal penalty that must be paid.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
4. Believe in your heart that because God loves you, He sent His Eternal Son, Jesus Christ to die on the Cross to pay that eternal penalty for your sins.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth (displayed) His love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
1 Corinthians 15:3b Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures.
1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation (substitutionary sacrifice) for our sins.
5. Believe in your heart that Jesus resurrected from the dead. This was His victory over our sin and death, and gives us confidence of eternal life.
1 Corinthians 15:4 And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
All of what Christ has done for your sin is wonderful news. But, maybe you’re wondering, “How can I be delivered from sin and have that eternal life Jesus offers?” Good question.
Here is the ONE important decision you must make based on the truths above: You must trust in Christ ALONE to be saved from sin’s penalty and have eternal life.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
How?
If you believe Jesus died for your sins, and rose again for you, and would like to receive His free gift of eternal life, you can call out to Him, believing His promise that He will save you from your sin.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
